Industrial-strength finishes for any metal project, from custom rims to commercial infrastructure. Durable, beautiful, and built to last.

⸻ WHAT IS IT?

The Gold Standard

in Metal Finishing

Powder coating is a dry finishing process where electrostatically charged powder is applied to a metal surface, then cured in an oven to create a hard, durable finish. Unlike liquid paint, powder coating contains no solvents and produces a finish that is significantly thicker, more uniform, and more resistant to chipping, fading, and corrosion.

At Apex, we use only Prismatic Powders, one of the most respected powder suppliers in the industry, giving you access to over 6,500 colors and finishes with guaranteed color accuracy and consistency.

Superior Durability

Powder coating creates a thick, uniform finish that resists chipping, scratching, fading, and corrosion far better than liquid paint, lasting years longer on exposed metal.

Baked-On Hardness

Parts are cured in our 10' × 10' × 30' oven at 400°F, chemically bonding the powder to the metal for a finish that won't peel, bubble, or crack under normal use.

HOW IT WORKS

OUR POWDER COATING PROCESS

01

Inspection & Estimate

We assess your part for condition, size, and complexity. Rust, old paint, or damage is noted and we'll recommend prep work (sandblasting, welding) if needed before coating.

02

Surface Preparation

All parts are thoroughly cleaned, degreased, and, where needed, sandblasted to bare metal. Proper prep is the single most important factor in coating adhesion and longevity.

03

Powder Application

Electrostatically charged powder is applied in our spray booth. The charge causes the powder to wrap around edges and coat complex geometry evenly, eliminating thin spots.

04

Curing

Parts enter our 10' × 10' × 30' oven and are cured at 400°F for the manufacturer-specified time. The powder melts, flows, and chemically bonds to the metal surface.

05

Quality Inspection

Every part is inspected for coverage, color accuracy, surface defects, and finish consistency before it leaves our shop. We don't release work we wouldn't put our name on.

06

Pickup or Delivery

Parts are carefully wrapped and ready for pickup at our Show Low facility. Local delivery may be available for large orders, ask us when you call.

POWDER COATING FAQ

Most standard jobs are completed within 3–5 business days from drop-off. Turnaround depends on job size, prep requirements, and current shop volume. Rush service is available, call us to discuss.

Remove any rubber, plastic, chrome trim, or non-metal components before bringing parts in. We'll handle the metal prep (cleaning, sandblasting) from there. If you're unsure, bring it as-is and we'll advise.

Yes. With 6,500+ Prismatic Powders colors available, we can match most color requests. Bring a paint chip, a photo, or a RAL/Pantone reference and we'll find the closest available powder.

Significantly more durable. Powder coating is 2–4x thicker than liquid paint, resists UV fading, chips, and corrosion better, and doesn't require a clear coat to maintain its finish.

No, powder coating requires bare metal for proper adhesion. We sandblast all parts to bare metal before coating. Attempting to coat over paint or chrome results in adhesion failure.

Our curing oven measures 10' wide × 10' tall × 30' deep, one of the largest in Northern Arizona. If it fits on a highway, it fits in our shop. See our Large Item Powder Coating page for details.
